The Municipality of Huizen gives permission for the temporary operation of a river cruise boat as a hotel ship in the harbor Nautical Quarter and offers opportunities for tourism in Huizen.

In the summer season, Huizen is the first municipality in the Netherlands to allow the operation of a river cruise boat as a hotel. The river cruise ship Swiss Pearl is located in Huizen from June 26 to July 31, 2020. Viva Riverside takes over the operation and aims for an occupancy rate of 50 to 70% of the 60 rooms, suitable for over 120 guests on board. After an interim evaluation, extension to September 1, 2020 is possible, the College of Mayor an Aldermen has decided.

Stimulant tourism

The municipality of Huizen wants tot stimulate the visit of Huizen with this project. Alderman for tourism Roland Boom: "It is precisely during these difficult times that many new ideas are launched to get society and tourism going. We want to give this initiative a chance. We hope that the hotel guests can be tempted to visit Huizen and this will lead to extra income for our entrepreneurs. In addition, we set high standards for following the measures to combat Covid-19."

Target guests

Swiss Pearl is a four-star cruise ship with a length of 110 meters. According to shipping company Viva Riverside, the target group is between 20 and 80 years old, who are expected to stay for 2 to 3 nights and visited various attractions and museums in Huizen and the region.
